Biblical exegesis is taken seriously at Pacific Christian College of Ministry & Biblical Studies. Scripture is held in high regard. Attempting to ascertain the original author's intent and the original recipient's understanding is a key component to our study, writing, teaching and preaching. We continually stress the need to keep texts in context. We recognize, however, that different people can approach the text with that same intent, but come to different conclusions. Therefore, we want our students to think critically, but with humility. None of us has a corner on all truth.Students can come to different conclusions than professors, but receive not only good grades, but positive affirmation. We want our students to be able to defend their position biblically, rationally, openly and respectfully. I think you will find those attitudes to be true regarding the student exegetical papers included in this book. Not everything written in these papers meets with agreement among the faculty. However, these students have written in a way that supports their position exegetically, not just emotionally. You may not agree with their points. However, I hope you will give them a fair analysis. The papers are printed as they were written by undergraduate students. They are not perfect in form or content. However, they serve as examples of what former and present undergraduates write for their exegetical papers.I hope to honor these students with this publication. I hope for you to see the quality of our students. I hope present and future students will be motivated to write excellent exegetical papers to be published in future editions. These students and others are the church's present and future. I hope you will be encouraged and challenged by this first volume of "Essays of Hope's Future"!
