Escaping Yugoslavia

By Leonard Kopilas

Book Overview

IN THE NEWLY FORMED COMMUNIST STATE OF YUGOSLAVIA, OPPRESSION, POVERTY AND CRUELTY ARE INESCAPABLE...

Raj Krizic understands there is no future for him in Yugoslavia beneath the iron fist of the Communist's rule, which enforces Party membership above all else, condemning those opposed to starvation.

As he begins his adult life at eighteen, Raj is confronted with a decision that will impact his freedom forever: enter compulsory military service for the despotic state he despises or flee the life and land he has always known.

With a friend by his side, and a brother already ahead of him, Raj escapes the oppressive state, travelling northward toward the border of Italy.

Freeing himself from the chains of his former life is one thing, but there are greater threats simmering throughout Europe during the Cold War. And punishment for dissidents found on foreign soil is far deadlier than for those caught in the ravages of the homeland...
