Breaking free from dogmatic religion to find ones own path.

Dr De Wall's book will upset many whose world view has been locked in by religious dogma. But for those who can overcome this, it will be a rewarding and liberating experience. Clement De Wall is a theologian and former Roman Catholic priest who demythologizes much of what organized religion teaches. He writes at length of the many world views or models of reality that help us make sense of our life experiences. From scientific, psychological and medical models to basic Christian world views and on to a world shaped by personal experience, he gives us tools to confidently discover our own spiritual path. One of the most fascinating parts of this book is the description of research studies on people who have had near-death experiences and spirit communications. He convincingly shows us that much of that research, which has been ridiculed by the scientific community, is valid even though it does not readily lend itself to the traditional scientific method. These studies show how such experiences have affected the lives and world views of those who have had them. Invariably, those people come to a changed view of what is important in their lives and what is important to God. The book is not about church bashing, although there is much in it about the churches' failures. Dr De Wall offers us a rich stew of ideas to nourish our souls. However, it challenges church authority and credibility and will surely be condemned. Be warned! If you are comfortably ensconced in some organized religious belief system, you wont like this book at all. I've read it twice.
