escape from boredom

This is a book that neither the Hawaii Visitor's Bureau nor the American Psychological Association would recommend. A warped but charismatic psychologist, who plots to transform Hawaii into his vision of a post-Hippie paradise by recruiting prominent members of Hawaiian society--politicians, educators, media personalities, the police--as his disciples at his mental health center through drugs, sex, physical and mental intimidation, and surgery, is opposed by a heroic, Bondian, psychologist. The local flavor and description of places are authentic. This is pure escapism in the midst of winter. So if you travel to Hawaii, go for the beaches, the sun, the sea, the people, the food, but be careful about having your psyche adjusted.
