ISBN 0394865782 - Very good and pretty realistic, too! Erin McEwan's father is back in school, her mother has been fired and as if that's not enough troubles, Erin herself is about to be forced to repeat a grade because she's as bad at math as her mother. Erin sets out to get her mother's job at Sbrocchi's Fine Foods back, but ends up getting a job there herself. She ends up lying to her parents, sneaking around behind their backs, arguing with her best friend and generally making a mess of things, but her plan is to get the new employee out of the way so that her mother's job is available again. It shouldn't be too hard - Mrs. Eberhardt, her replacement, is an good accountant and a terrible cook. Mrs. Sbrocchi is a good manager but a terrible accountant, so it's not a surprise that the business is having a hard time. Once the truth comes out about where Erin's been every day after school, will her father quit school to go back to work he doesn't really like? And will her mother ever speak to her again? Worst of all, will she have to repeat a grade? Really a very nice story, especially for kids who just aren't good at math! - AnnaLovesBooks
