Urban Myths

Ever hear those medical urban myths / legends? Well, that is what I thought they were until I bought Bolens book. I can't believe these things are real! This is an easy to read, well written book.

THIS BOOK IS ABSOLUTEY FABULOUS. I HAVE READ IT AND CAN'T BELIVE THAT THIS STUFF IS TRUE. I CAN SEE WHY THEY SAY IT IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO LOOK AT A HAND LOTION BOTTLE THE SAME.

ER Cases You Won't Believe!

Anyone interested in what goes on in hospital emergency rooms will enjoy this book. Once I started reading it I could not put it down. The cases described and illustrated run the gamut from serious to sad to uplifting to bizarre. The most interesting cases involve objects people have put in their bodies and not all in the mouth! Can you imagine a man swallowing six razor blades? One man tried to circumcise himself using a film canister with disastrous results. A party girl was dancing on a glass table that shattered with a four-inch shard puncturing deep in her buttocks. She was not a happy dancer. I also learned a lot about the body and types of illnesses, especially the lungs. What makes the book for me is the detailed x-rays and diagrams. If bones are broken, there are x-rays showing the break along with a diagram of the body part with the break(s) clearly illustrated. Dr. Bolen's writing style is unlike any I have seen. He tells it like it is and even adds humor where appropriate. He describes his emotions as he struggles to keep people alive. You are right with him as he diagnoses cases and makes life savng moves. Some of the cases are really wacky. I can't believe what some people do to their bodies.
