EPICENTER by Carrie Hannah
I was immediately hooked by this sweeping historical fiction tale of four very different young women. Caitlyn, Liah, One Feather and Marianna leave their respective homes/countries and embark on a path that will test their mettle and resolve.
It’s easy to become absorbed in a story when the characters are fully developed and have compelling backstories. Even the supporting characters of Coltrane and Ping were interesting, memorable and enriched the plot in their own way.
Not sure if this was a printing issue, but text formatting would’ve benefited from line breaks between scenes. Often a conversation between characters would roll into another time, location or event at the very next paragraph. Also, some of the dialogue felt too modern for the late 1800s to early 1900s.
Despite those minor criticisms, I very much enjoyed this wonderful story of perseverance, courage, found family, love and acceptance.
