Around the world, SMIs are certainly important in the economic chain, but they are responsible for serious environmental damage such as the excessive consumption of natural resources, GHG emissions, and biodiversity loss. This analytical research was undertaken to better understand this situation. It consists of characterizing SMIs, identifying their predisposition to implement EMSs, and proposing a plan for implementing these EMSs. Using a mixed approach, the survey and analysis of certain approaches proposed by other authors are, among other things, the strategies that led to the achievement of these objectives. This led to the identification of 52 SMIs. Thirty-two percent of workers have a university degree, and 67% do not receive training in environmental compliance. With regard to their predisposition to implement EMSs, several weaknesses were identified, including a lack of environmental objectives and the absence of environmental policies. Ultimately, a plan for implementing EMSs in SMIs was proposed.
