In this dictionary, which replaces Vol. I, Part 2, The Chief Elements in English Place-Names, examples from Vols II to XXIII are supplemented by material from counties not at the time in the published Survey. Additions and amendments were later published in the Journal. A comprehensive list of these corrections is supplied with each set of Elements. Introduction, bibliography, the elements a-iw, maps (in end-pocket). The introduction includes a concise discussion of methodology and a useful note on OE dialectal variants. The material analysed is generally restricted to a study of the final elements (and a good many first elements) which occur in major place-names so far evidenced before the late fifteenth century.
