Not only is grammatical knowledge useful for English learners, but it is also of the utmost importance for English speakers, especially when they hold high positions in their workplaces. The CEOs, directors, and managers whose speaking and writing are full of grammatical errors are mere objects of ridicule to the employees in their organizations or companies. Some of the most common mistakes made by English speakers are punctuation marks, conditionals, and some grammar rules related to unreal situations and subjunctive (e.g. wish + a sentence). Punctuation marks, especially, are used incorrectly also by some professional writers who are also native English speakers. With 20 years of teaching experience both as a teacher in private schools of language and as a freelancer, I have come to realize that a holistic approach to teaching and learning English is the best way to make students understand how to use English grammar correctly. When you have learned one thing, you can also understand something else. Another fundamental thing in English that many textbooks fail to emphasize is that English cannot be learned through forms but through contexts or contextualization. The explanations in the book, for the most part, are based on logic and common sense although I must admit that I can't provide you with all logical explanations. Try as I might, there are some rules of English grammar that I cannot see either logic or common sense. Where logic fails me, I will use a mnemonic device.
