The Engineered Engagement

A hidden genius, an ambitious shipbuilder, and a daring deception-can she prove her worth without losing her heart?

Eli Kennebrae plans to revolutionize cargo transportation on the Great Lakes. But his grandfather's meddling obligates him to an arranged engagement. Though Josie Zahn is kindhearted and strikes his interest, Eli needs an engineer for his ship, not a fianc e.

Josie has admired Eli for years, but to him, she's just "one of the Zahn girls." Worse, society expects her to marry, not pursue her passion for mathematics and engineering. If she could only get Eli's attention, she could help him achieve his goals.

Then "Professor Josephson," a brilliant mathematical mind, provides the analyses to make Eli's ship design a reality. As Eli finds unexpected kinship in the professor's work, he remains unaware of the truth-Josie is the genius behind the numbers. When deception and ambition collide, will Eli see Josie for who she truly is before it's too late?

Engineered My Attention

What a great and satisfying end to the Brides of the West series. It is now Eli Kennebrae turn to be matched up by his grandfather and he is not interested in marrying but just wants to build ships. This story has a few twists that keep your interest from beginning to end. Step back to 1906 and imagine loving math and wanting to follow your dream that God has given you but society won’t look kindly on that. Therein secrets and lies snowball and therefore repentance and forgiveness are necessary. I found I couldn’t turn pages quick enough as the storytelling is great and I enjoyed the characters and the empathy I felt for each person’s struggles. I have enjoyed this series immensely as they each have unique situations although they carry the same theme of arranged marriages by a grandfather. I recommend this quick read that will capture your attention.I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit/Wild Heart Books. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

Lovely conclusion to a great series

Ah, and we finally get to meet Eli, the third Kennebrae brother. I loved how different the brothers were, though their tenacious loyalty to family and strong faith were commonalities. Jonathan, the oldest, had a great business mind and serious countenance. Noah, Eli’s twin, had an easy-going manner and a quick thinking mind that made him a great lake captain. Eli was a man with his head in the clouds, always thinking and dreaming about how to build a better ship. He was a visionary, while Jonathan was a planner and Noah was a doer. So naturally he wasn’t as romantic as Jonathan or Noah but became more thoughtful as his heart became engaged. Josie was absolutely perfect for Eli. Inclined towards math and engineering, Josie herself was practical though she only wanted to be seen as who she was by Eli whom she has loved for a few years. Eli’s bumbling courtship made him quite delightful and Josie’s desire to use her God-given talent was admirable. I found shipbuilding and the mathematics required quite fascinating. Grandfather Kennebrae remained incorrigible and manipulative but he did get his wish in the end. If you enjoy historical romance, you need to pick up this book and the series. I became so engrossed in the Kennebrae family that I finished three books in three days! I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
