Yes You Can Be Effective in Managing Change

Whereas this book was written for target groups of people in business like CEOs, Executives, managers, and coaches who are involved in supporting people to manage change in this fast-changing world, I can easily see the application for anyone who wants to learn how to more effectively deal with change. Extremely user-friendly. In addition to the clearly laid out wealth of information about the process and contextual foundations, you will find a Glossary, Bibliography, Figures, Charts, Index and even an On-line appendix so you can download and use the tools yourself. Very generous. I like the holographic presentation of the book. One can dip into creating the chapter about creating vision, or if you know how to do that, and have a vision that excites your passion, you may want to check out how to track your progress (using the scorecard). Each section, actually each piece, is a manageable sound-byte. The author recognizes that one can obtain great value from one paragraph, if that is all the time you have. So pick up the book, read your `gold nugget', set it down and return hours later for another. I love the Ashleigh Brilliant witticisms that appear throughout, crystallizing points very simply, such as: Your Task is simple: Eliminate the difference between how things should be and how they really are. The pictures (visuals) speak a thousand words. Points are made with real-life examples of this award-winning process. Sometimes these are the author's life experiences; sometimes they are from colleagues or the literature. The author is clearly an expert on change management and helping organizations become more effective. Reading this book is like sitting down with a wise teacher for an afternoon and discussing points from all angles. For example, in the chapter on Mission and Values Review, you can read 14 real examples and 2 fictional ones of company mission statements. Gagné discusses and evaluates each one so that by the time you have read this section, you will likely have reached a new level of mastery in understanding the elements of effective mission statements. For those interested in history, you can read 14 pages of highlights and perspectives of the evolution of the field of change management. Gagné's work takes us the next step in this field. Finally, I am very pleased that Gagné has recognized the place and power of coaches to help in the change process.

Easy to Understand

I am enjoying this book. It is easy to read and understand. In the past I found business structure books boring and gookie - but not so with this one.

A brilliant , practical guide for planned change in organizations!

For those of you that work with planned organizational change, here is a book for you! Dr. Gagne is a good friend of mine and my co-author of the seminal DESIGNING EFFECTIVE ORGANIZATIONS;TRADITIONAL AND TRANSFORMATIONAL VIEWS(Sage Publications, 1995). She has written a brilliant piece that describes a huge cultural/structural change effort she work on while at Franklin-Covey..........check it out!!! David K. Great practitioners guidebook

I love this book. I like how Dr. Gagne has made the change process for large organizations simple. While the work with organiations can be complex, Dr. Gagne has managed to describe the process using simple language, great examples, and helpful tools. Other books provide the theory; Dr. Gagne does that took, but also uses a real company example throughout the book to illustrate how to effectively ENGAGE in change.

Great for executives interested in leading change and organizational practictioners

Business literature is rich on theory but generally poor on practice. Engage! provides both the sound theoretical basis for organizational change as well as excellent practical steps. Dr. Gagne bridges the gap between methodology and specific practice in a very readable format. Her accompanying website is very useful also. I hope this catches the attention of the universities as it would make an excellent college text.
