She hopped into a bus whose rough necked conductor was yelling "Palm Grove, Onipan!" incessantly in a harsh off-key voice. She tuned out his abrasive loud voice and once again thought about the dream she had had two nights ago. A strange old woman had stared at her with deep hatred, and had said "Ma danwo!" That was Yoruba for 'Don't try it!' What had stood out about her was that she had eyes that were bloodshot and a mixture of brown and black teeth...short, unkempt looking woman...yeah Mary felt she could identify her anywhere if she were a real life person. She had reflected over the dream several times hoping that the missing parts would come back to her...what was she NOT to try and why? Of course she knew even in the dream that the woman was evil...but what was it that she was not to do...that was the question! She had woken up in fear and had had to pray for a while before she became calm. Those eyes made her shudder every time she thought of them! Darkness had already drawn its thick curtains over the sky by the time Mary arrived on her street. The traffic had been very heavy as usual. As she alighted from the bus and walked down off the main road and into her street, she felt as though she was being followed. She could feel eyes watching her from behind. There were still a few stragglers packing up their wares hurriedly and in a nearby mechanic yard a few mechanics sat down drinking local gin from a young Hausa man that plied his wares in a small basket. Mary felt safe...at least whoever was following her would not try anything around these mechanics, and her apartment was only a couple of blocks further on...she picked up her pace just as the lights went out and everywhere was plunged into darkness. Just then, she heard the footsteps behind her quicken into a run...so she broke into a run as well! A few more metres and she would be home...Mary ran desperately!
