I think that the writing in this short novel enriched with sobering detail. I have met the author and have a signed copy that should be a part of California and Washington school curriculum. With some personal experience in public and academic libraries and I smell success, if you have never imagined internment camp life read this book, it may bring you closer to the actual empathy that you need to prevent this kind of thing from happening to citizens of this country again. Writer Ito takes a slow and painful walk through the frightening prejudice that caused the incarceration of over 120,000 ethnic Japanese in WWII, most of them women and children. Very timely topic for today, I would recommend the book on the strength of the suprising ending. This is real writing, Toshiko, tadashi desu ne. irma
