Endometriosis is a long-lasting, benign disorder in which cells that normally line the uterus (endometrial cells) develop in other areas of the body. The endometrium is a lining tissue that covers the inside of the uterus. The term for the ailment originates from this finding. The Endometriosis Foundation of America believes that 1 in 10 American women will be affected by the ailment throughout their reproductive years. Endometriosis causes a lot of discomfort, usually in the pelvic region. It is quite unusual for this tissue to expand beyond the uterus, ovaries, and pelvic lining.
