1994 Brilliance & Ethics, Need Reprinting

I've spent the last four days expanding and re-ordering my library, tired of tripping over the hundreds of books I've read in the last two years and could not fit. This has has the absolutely stunning side-benefit of resurfacing for review some incredible gems from the 1970's (Richard Falk), the 1980's (Herman Daly), and 1990's (this author and others). It is now clearly established that the world, led by the USA which spends more than all the others combined, is spending $1.3 trillion a year on war. What makes this despicable as well as sad is that we now know, from a variety of courses including E.O. Wilson and Medard Gabel (designer with Buckminster Fuller of the World Game), that for $230 billion a year, we can eradicate the ten high-level threats to humanity, provide free education to the five billion poor "one cell call at a time," and consequently create infinite stabilizing wealth or as Medard says in his forthcoming book, "seven billion billionaires." I stopped what I was doing and sat down with this gem of a book for a while. This author has really delivered a wonderful melange of anti-war, pro-global peace "federation of nations" concept that includes clear appreciation for culture and values. Buried within the book was what appears to be a 1990's review of the book that is somewhat scathing, finding four flaws: 1) assumption that any nation would be willing to submit to a federation 2) assumption that any nation would allow a federation to interact directly with its citizens 3) avoidance of any discussion of tribes, religions, and other forms of community 4) absence of any understanding of the power of information and informaiton in the hands of individuals linked through the global grid. Now that I am more broadly read, I am both more sympathetic, and more appreciative of this effort. It has "good intention" and I am slowly learning that "good intention" is half the battle. Hence, my bottom line: not the whole story, but refreshing and a useful contribution to the growing demand by publics everywhere for peace and prosperity in our time. It's never too late to consider "good intentions" in that direction.
