Childrens Favorite!

Children LOVE this book! It's a fun adventure kids want to hear over and over again. I saw the author, Ariane Smith, read Enchanted Thyme to a huge group of children; not only were they enthralled with the story, but they were excited to try cooking for themselves. This story is a children's favorite!

I enjoyed reading the book very much

Reviewed by Madeline McElroy (age 7.5) for Reader Views (2/09) This book is about a boy named Peter and a girl named Belinda and three talking and flying mice on an adventure to see the queen. They are trying to save the Queendom. I like this book because it has a recipe at the end of each chapter that follows the story. My Mom made the Macaroni with 3 Gooey Cheeses (she left out the pepper). It was sooooooooo delicious! Today we are going to try the Ultimate Homemade Granola with Chocolate Chips, it sounds really yummy! A funny part of the story is when Peter said one of the mice was "dancing like a mad ballerina." My favorite part of the story is when the giant's hand was lazered by the evil queen. Peter and Belinda met the giant in the creepy forest. The giant wanted to help them save the Queendom. I would recommend other children read this book, "Enchanted Thyme" by Ariane Smith, if they love cooking and a great story! I enjoyed reading this book very much. I like the cover on the front because it is colorful and pretty.

LOVE THIS BOOK!

Posted 1/25/2009: I LOVE! LOVE! LOVE this book! My daughter loved it so much that she read it in two days. This is a fun "fairy tale" about two children trying to help Queen Topstead by finding the magic ingredient that will make her stop being so hungry after the evil Fricassee Fairy puts a curse on her. The recipes in this book are DELICIOUS! It really helps your children to appreciate cooking and it makes them WANT to learn how to cook. I highly recommend this book. My kids give this book a two thumbs up.

A Fun Filled Adventure That Nourishes Kids' Bodies and Minds

It's so wonderful to find a book that completely captures the imagination of children and, at the same time, provides them with an opportunity to prepare healthy, delicious dishes in the mix. My grandchildren became totally immersed in the hilarious, magical adventures of Belinda and Peter Phair and their dad, chef Michael, in the first of Ariane Smith's series, Enchanted Thyme. Not only were my grandchildren's imaginations totally satisfied, but the recipes after each chapter have provided them with fun, healthy meals. Their two favorite recipes were "Rosemary's Dip and Swirl Veggie Bouquets" and "Orgolio's Dancing Salsa". It is great to hear them relive their time in the "enchanted forest" as they prepare their new culinary specialties at home. This charming book has helped to make our shopping trips much more fun. We race to see who can find the kiwi, honeydew and Granny Smith apples for "Belinda's Groovey Grapes and other green fruit Salad"? Now we all look forward to shopping together for our tasty, healthy meals. It is a true gift to find a book that nourishes both the body and mind of young readers. We all anxiously await Ms. Smith's next delicious book in her Enchanted Thyme series. Grace Mullaney Proflcc@yahoo.com

Great Story and Recipes

My daughter loves to read. Her favorite genres are mystery and fantasy. She loves to cook, too, so when I saw the Delicious Adventure Series, I knew that she would love it! Some of the vocabulary in the story is pretty advanced, which makes it sound more fairy-talish, and would do well in a family read-aloud to give it extra dramatic flair. However, about half of the way through, I began to feel as if the words might burden down a young reader. My daughter is a high-level reading 10 year old, but for an 8 year old who would otherwise enjoy the story, it might be a bit much. Then I found the glossary at the end of the book which explains, in interesting and kid-friendly terms, the words that are used such as fathom, strenuous, voracious, flourish, and demeanor. There was a note before the first chapter alerting the readers to this as well, but I happened to miss it. The story is fanciful, and imaginative, featuring the adventures of 10-year-old Belinda and her 8-year-old brother Peter who are whisked off to the land of Enchanted Time where the Queen and the land are under the dark spell of the Fricassee Fairy. Three magical mice -- Marjoram, Basil, and Rosemary -- come to enlist Belinda's and Peter's help in breaking the curse by coming up with the perfect meal to satisfy the Queen's appetite. In addition to a great story, the recipes look wonderful. They are healthful, yet pack lots of kid-appeal. Since they are mentioned in the story, kids would be even more likely to try them out. Parents could even make themed dinners (with the help of their kids of course) as they are reading the book. Two forks up!
