The layperson's guide to emotional intelligence using real, down to earth examples. Approachable style with EQ testing and practical exercises and visualizations to help the reader address the way they think emotionally and live a happier, more authentic life.
Jane Wharam's excellent book takes Daniel Goleman's original idea of 1995 and turns what I recall as a very dry discussion into something energizing, eye-opening, and truly useful - and in the process she delivers far more than Goleman did. This short and fascinating book is truly a must-have item. Jane's great skill is that she uses her considerable learning with a light touch. We never feel overwhelmed or at sea in the discussions. And that is no mean feat. She is also splendidly practical as she provides exercises for the reader that cause us to think in new ways about what it means to know our emotions, manage them, and how to use the information they provide so we can proceed more wisely than before. She then moves onto the next most important topic - which is that we need not only to manage our own emotions, but also to recognize how to get other people to manage their emotions, too. If you want to learn about your emotions, read this book. If you want to discover how to interact more successfully with others, study this book. And if you want to live a more fulfilled life, then you'd better own this book! Dr. Allan G. Hunter [...] author: 'The Six Archetypes of Love'
Great book

I heard Jane Wharam being interviewed on the radio and she sounds like one smart lady, who is happy to share her life experiences and tell how she turned her life around using EI. Hope she crosses the pond for some tv and personal appearances.
A Ground Breaking Book

I have to admit this isn't the kind of book I would usually read but I was asked to review it for the US market, and I am so glad I did. Emotional Intelligence is a `must-have' book that will be talked about in the years to come as ground-breaking, for many reasons. It is extremely well-researched and it's written in a very accessible style. Unlike many books of this type, it doesn't fall into the trap of preaching to the reader in a patronizing tone. It is clearly written by someone who has accepted and dealt with her own shortcomings and is keen to share experiences and lessons that we can all learn from. No-one is perfect and this book explains what makes us the way we are. It also offers excellent practical exercises which provide great insight into why we behave in the way we do. Why are strong people often secretly insecure? How do weak people manipulate others? Why do some people continue to repeat the same mistakes? It's all explained in this book which I enjoyed so much I have recommended it to many of my friends. I can hardly believe this is Jane Wharam's first work and I eagerly anticipate her second.
