Something as insignificant as the dry cleaner's notice that they will be closing at noon every day gets Emmy Budd's curiosity buzzing. The new man at the dry cleaner's is not able to satisfy Emmy that it's because of the heat. We always have heat in summer, she reminds T.J. who tells her to forget it.

But she can't. As Emmy pulls on the loose threads of the dry cleaner's explanation for closing early, she and her trusted sidekick, T.J. Blake, are thrust into a baffling set of strange events and suspicious characters leading to a confounding hypothesis.
