Like no one else, Emil Nolde managed to make the spectacles of nature tangible via his paintings. Whether subtle, atmospheric images or intoxicatingly pastose color combinations, whether light plays calmly on reflecting surfaces or colored waves crest brightly, Nolde's seascapes--like nature itself--abound with energy. In this publication, the paintings he created at the North and Baltic Seas are presented comprehensively for the first time.
