ARTinside Me, the social and emotional art project that Embrace Awkward compliments, started in 2013 when founder/ARTist Sharon DeMattia began using blank canvases sketched with human silhouettes as a vibrant medium to start rich, deep conversations with her three children. Immediately Sharon and those close to her recognized the sprawling application of the ART as a means to begin meaningful dialogue among families, groups, couples, coworkers and friends-as well as introspective intrapersonal conversations with yourself. Deeply impassioned to help others express and embrace their personal stories, Sharon began bringing the project to various outlets-including homeless shelters, elementary schools, cancer benefits, corporate gatherings, military veteran groups and more. The ARTinside Me project allows those in any situation, in any demographic, with any level of artistic ability to become intrinsically connected with their authentic selves, and then openly share themselves with those around them. Embrace Awkward highlights many of the unique stories individuals have shared through the ARTinside Me canvases. Sharon wholeheartedly believes that by embracing and sharing our personal stories-freeing our core beliefs and resisting conformity-we can create more open dialogue with those around us ... a concept she believes can positively transform the world.
