EMBERS follows one soul across six lives - a shepherd girl in Bronze Age Greece, a poet in Tang Dynasty China, a griot in the Mali Empire, a mill worker in industrial England, a gig worker in the present day, and an engineer in a far future where grief itself can be erased. In every era, she falls in love, meets the same ageless guide, and faces the same choice: forget the pain and dissolve into painless peace, or keep the ache and stay herself. Threaded through all six lives, two ancient, argumentative forces disagree about whether love should ever be helped along - and slowly, without either quite admitting it, arrive somewhere closer to agreement than either expected. Spiritual but never religious, EMBERS asks what makes a person a person - and whether love is worth the cost of remembering it.
