In this Christian novel, Sam Derwecker is a 36-year-old agnostic sportswriter who has come to a crossroads in his life. He is desperate to learn if God exists, and if so, to determine why He doesn't intervene in people's lives to keep horrible things from happening. One of his neighbors is an atheist who tells Sam he'd be much better off if he came to the realization that the world is a random, chaotic mess because there is no God to do anything about it. Another of his neighbors believes the answer to Sam's search can be found in the pages of the Bible. Not yet ready to accept either of these positions, Sam challenges God to reveal His existence and explain why He allows so much pain and suffering among the people He created and supposedly loves. God responds to this seeker with a series of 11 dreams. In each dream, Sam discovers what would have occurred in his life - from age 10 to the present - had God not intervened to spare him considerable misery. Sam now understands he must make a decision that will profoundly affect the rest of his life and possibly that of his wife and children. And he resolves to make the right one.
