I've returned to this little book for teaching writing more times than I can count: I would require it for college freshman writing classes were it still in print. Teaching students to address real audiences with real purposes is its primary focus; although nuance of audience construction must be somewhat compromised for undergraduate Composition classes, the benefits of having students read this book far outweigh the disadvantages of having to read essay after essay of ill-considered, non-purposeful freshman writing that results from the lack of understanding the concepts Youga emphasizes. Don't be persuaded by the other reviewer's ad hominem fallacies to ignore this book.
