Book Overview

This book presents the basic ideas of linear algebra in a manner that users will find understandable. It offers a fine balance between abstraction/theory and computational skills, and gives readers an excellent opportunity to learn how to handle abstract concepts. Included in this comprehensive and easy-to-follow manual are these topics: linear equations and matrices; solving linear systems; real vector spaces; inner product spaces; linear transformations and matrices; determinants; eigenvalues and eigenvectors; differential equations; and MATLAB for linear algebra. Because this book gives real applications for linear algebraic basic ideas and computational techniques, it is useful as a reference work for mathematicians and those in field of computer science.

Great book for those interested in the theory of Linear Algebra at the introductory level

This is a great book for those interested in the theory of linear algebra. If you want to read some theorems and do some proofs in linear algebra, then I highly reccommend this book. I used it in an undergad. course and liked it. I read the first 3 chapters and the chapter on determinants, and I have no big complaints. However, if you are going to use this book for a one semester course in linear algebra, then i'll warn you...

A great linear algebra book

My department recently adopted this book for our regular undergraduate linear algebra course upon the recommendation of a colleague of mine and myself. I am currently teaching from it and am delighted by it.The book is concisely written, with just the right amount of detail to help the student understand the concepts but without sweeping any tricky details under the rug. The topics are arranged in the right order to avoid...
