"The Elements of Hydrostatics" seem capable of being presented in a simpler form than that in which they appear in all the works on the subject with which I am acquainted. I have therefore attempted to give a simple explanation of the Mathematical Theory of Hydrostatics and the practical application of it. Prior to the publication of this work some copies were privately circulated with a view to obtain opinions from Teachers of experience as to the sufficiency and accuracy of the information contained in it. A few suggestions received in consequence of this arrangement will be found in the Notes at the end of the volume.
