Ideal as a review/reference, this best-seller focuses on mathematical topics that are most useful in solving electronics problems. Hands-on in approach, it features an abundance of step-by-step examples, practice problems, and self-tests. Calculator usage is covered as necessary. The Decimal Number System. Powers of Ten. Units and Prefixes. Computer Number Systems. Algebraic Terms: Roots, and Powers. Fractions. Fractions and Literal Numbers. Linear Equations. Factoring Algebraic Expressions. Fractional Equations. DC Circuit Analysis--Kirchhoff's Laws. DC Circuit Analysis--Ohm's Law. DC Circuit Analysis--Circuit Theorems. Graphing. Simultaneous Linear Equations. Complex Numbers. The Right Triangle. Trigonometric Identities. AC Fundamentals. AC Circuit Analysis--Series Circuits. AC Circuit Analysis--Parallel Circuits. Filters. Logarithms. Logarithmic Equations. Applications of Logarithms. Boolean Algebra. Karnaugh Maps. Introduction to Statistics. A review/reference for electronics technicians.
I read this book not necessarily to understand electronics but for a solid understanding of basic math. From this grounding in basic math I feel I can move on to any of the higher maths if I choose to do so. As an adult going into a career (auto technician) in which math was required I found this the only book to be of any substantial help.
Good book except for errors in answers
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 26 years ago
My earlier review was critical of errors in answers given for end of chapter questions and for test questions in the supplemental test writer. The book in general is good. Examples shown are better than average and the subject matter is good. My earlier review was written soon after I had been nailed by my students for having no correct answer in a multiple choice quiz question taken from Prentice Hall Custon Test 3.2. It was the only question I hadn't worked out to check the answer. Shame on me.
