Electragliding USA 2 - a Harley, a Scotsman and some Right States: (black and white edition)

"Well, ... here we are again. Welcome to the 2nd in the Electraglide series......
If you haven't read the 1st book, (a pretty good assumption as Clive from Hackney has now left the country) then here is what you can expect.
The story of a Scotsman on a Harley, told in his own tongue - the highs, the lows and the downright drunken and idiotic...;Select travel information and advice. If you are considering a bike or road trip in the States, this should be of some assistance to you;Cracking places you can visit along the way; andThe learning of the "Scottish Language" from skilful deciphering - "Whit djee meen? Therr's nu'in WRANG wi the way aah Tok "Is this a travel book? Yes, it is a travel book in as far as it describes a Harley Davidson Trip covering nearly fifteen-hundred miles of the USA. However, it also not a travel book but a narrative of the trip of a lifetime, starting from the musical smorgasbord of Nashville; curving and sweeping down the Natchez Trace Parkway to the Mississippi Delta - the mesmerising home of the blues; a dive into the utter music-madness of New Orleans; a glide along the beaches and into the 'Gator territories of the Florida Panhandle; a loop around the Daytona Raceway and then finally, a roar down to sample the style and Art-Deco swagger of Miami."

"So, after I escaped from the Gas Station/Biker Club scenario, I found myself hammering down loooong, straight, 2-lane roads in the dark, with high fields of what I can only assume was corn, blotting out any vague shapes in the dark to the left or right. These roads headed straight towards Clarksdale - I could see it twinkling in the distance. However, then the storm hit - no rain yet, just rolllllling thunder. Then, as I longed to get to the Devil's Crossroads, I began to see huge, persistent streaks of forked lightening striking either directly on the town, or in-line with it.

Picture the scene. I am on a Harley, charging along on a hot, very dark night. I am heading towards the mystical place called the Devil's Crossroads where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the Devil. The Thunder is rolling, the wind is rising and up ahead I am seeing forked lightening pierce the clouds and hit the very place this supernatural transaction is supposed to have taken place.
There is some profanity required here: -

was the only sound I appeared to be able to make."

"There were a few other messages I sent which were just too random to be included as I have no idea where they came from. A good example would be the note "Ukulele Film ruined by camp barman spouting about....." I mean, where on earth in the total madness of Bourbon St., I would have been watching a film about a Ukulele and chatting to a camp barman too much to enjoy it is just beyond me.....

One thing I do remember was the Sax Lady. When I was overloading with madness, I took a stroll up a couple of side streets for a breather. It was quieter around here, dusky light and calm. Then I heard the sweetest, most soulful bit of Alto Sax I have ever heard. I looked up and there, just leaning on the shutters of a closed Laundromat, with no-one around and bathed in the light from a struggling streetlight, was a gorgeous, mature lady, playing her heart out just for the sake of it. I was completely mesmerised and looked-on from across the street in a fashion that eventually made her stop and draw back into a doorway (must have been the drool, dribbling down towards the gully-grate) as I was frozen on the spot. The spell broken, I trudged back around to Bourbon St. for part two and was soon swept back up into the crazy river of fun again. However, that one memory will stay with me - music is everywhere in New Or-Lens, it is mesmerising."
