On and off from 1988 to 1996 the sculptor, Penelope Jencks, worked to create the sculpture of Eleanor Roosevelt at the corner of 72nd Street and Riverside Drive. This is a memoir of that endeavor, the high points as well as the low. It was written over a period of fifteen years, starting in 1998, two years after the installation, and much of it is taken from the journals she kept while working on the sculpture.
