The mother survives, but no trace is found of her son. In the second, an obscure young writer wins a prestigious literary award, navigating the ups and downs of fame far from the man who raised him - an enigmatic figure who nevertheless is full of tenderness and compassion, a would-be artist of the night who dresses as a woman and dreams of singing in his own cabaret. The third story features this same man, an occasional crossdresser struggling to make a living, who comes home to his rented room one day with a lost child, explaining that the parents died in an accident and, as the only living relative, he must take care of the boy. The three stories intertwine, growing one from another into an intense narrative haunted by those who leave us with the burden of their absence.
