Si queremos saber quién fue José Ingenieros, leemos que se desempeñó como médico, psicólogo y docente, y que estuvo relacionado con movimientos que parecerían no coincidir: teosofía, socialismo,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I was faced with the reading of this book by argentinian philosopher Jose Ingenieros in the midst of a Philosophy class in college, and found it extremely rewarding, as I understood that -as an idealist and a dreamer- I'm not alone in this world, but I am also bound for hitting myself against very strong walls. The most beautiful part I always carry within my heart from this book goes like this: "The world will never go as far as idealists want it to go; but it certainly goes way beyond it would have ever gone, had it not been thanks to them in the first place."
A cruel truth

Jose Ingenieros really talks about a very touchy but inevitable fact of modern life, the mediocrity of the modern man in a modern society. This book is about how a human being can let him/herself be shape completely by the stupidity and norms of every day life "rules". It sates how an uncommon man with uncommon thoughts can be isolated from the rest of society just because of his/her views on life. It must be read by every person working and living in the rutine of an every day life. It does not isolate the uncommon man but it definitly can show you how to survive in a medicre society.
A must for every adolescent and adult to read!

I have read El Hombre Mediocre by Jose Ingenieros when I was 13 years old and it has changed by life to a most excellent life. Of all the books I have read, I believe that El Hombre Mediocre, The Road Less Traveled, and The Art of Loving, and others like it should be read by every adolescent and young adult before they embarke on their journey through life. They are great guidelines and helpful in excellent decision making throughout life. Has there been a translation of El Hombre Mediocre to English and of The Road Less Traveled and the Art of Loving to Spanish and other languages? I would like to recommend the book to persons speaking other languages also. Viera Ivanovna Pablant, Ph.D.
