Keawe is a young Hawaiian man who feels the need to explore other lands, so he travels to San Francisco. There he discovers a beautiful house whose owner seems rather sad and frightened. When he strikes up a conversation with him and asks the reason for his sadness, the old man shows him a glass bottle containing a milky white substance. Amazed, the old man tells him that a demon surrounded by the fires of hell lives in this bottle and can grant any wish, except one: to extend a person's life. To do so, the owner of the bottle must fulfill a series of requirements: he must sell the bottle to another person before he dies and sell it for less than he paid for it, or he will go to hell where the evil one dwells.
