Jake Shaw was promoted through the enlisted ranks and after eleven years was commissioned as an officer of the line in the United States Navy. His first duty station after he was commissioned was the aircraft carrier the USS Enterprise, a ship that had launched his successful enlisted career during the Vietnam War. Jake returned to the Enterprise as the air traffic control officer to start his career as a naval officer. After picking up the ship in the Philippines, he headed to the Indian Ocean. After forty-five days of intense operations, the ship headed to Western Australia and the port of Fremantle for eight days of rest and relaxation. While taking the light rail from Fremantle to Perth, where he and his fellow carrier air traffic control center officers had rented a suite at the Parmelia hotel in Perth, he met a beautiful Australian woman named Susan Durum, who took the initiative to sit beside him on the train.Jake got off the train at the downtown Perth station, and as he was leaving, he invited Susan to join him at a big party that night sponsored by local and the country's dignitaries for the ship's officers. She told him she had another commitment but would try to get to the party. As the party was winding down and Jake decided she wasn't coming, Susan and her girlfriend Rita showed up, and Jake and Susan embarked on an unfolding journey of love, lust, and companionship using Western Australia's interesting and unique places as canvas.
