INTRODUCTION In India, revolutionary changes have taken place in the field of education, economy, technology etc. that have subsequently impacted the social institutions. Consequently, the family structure, social and psychological functions of an individual has been affected. There are disruptions in social institutions like family and marriage. The changing times have enabled freedom and exposure on one end, the weakening family structure, disruptive moral values and disregard of family honour is on the other end. Increasing number of Nuclear Family, single child family, career oriented couple, has bought in significant changes in the parenting styles and child rearing practice. The parents' of that decade tend to have children who are in the age of Adolescence. Adolescents' are characterized by heightened Emotionality, which may be the result of physical, psychological or environmental causes, which leads to upset homeostasis, predisposes them to accidents, decreases mental efficiency (memory, concentration and reasoning), increases rigidity, narrows the perceptual field and decreases ability to respond to environment clues, affects school work and social adjustment. They are observed to be left unguarded to face the varied set of challenges ranging from the escalating number of various crises, conflicts originating from a psychosocial environment to environmental degradation and rapid urbanization. With these challenges expected to intensify over the period, adolescents have to be equipped with the ability and knowledge to contend the hostile surroundings.
