Why Teach?
Who Are Today′s Students?
What Makes a Good Teacher?

Educational Foundations: An Anthology of Critical Readings
answers these questions and more, providing an exciting alternative to other foundations textbooks. This anthology is aimed at students about to enter the teaching profession, those new to the profession, and anyone interested in carefully examining--and improving--schools and schooling. In this Third Edition, editors Alan S. Canestrari and Bruce A. Marlowe add new essays by classic and contemporary policy shapers and teachers. The readings are bold and refreshing, and their authors eschew unquestioning compliance. By taking a hard look at traditional educational practice, the contributors to this anthology serve as models for the kind of reflective practitioners that its editors hope that students will become while in the field.

It doesn't get any better than this.

For years, I tried to find a decent text on educational foundations. The books available are huge, generic, way over priced, stodgy, and basically not at all helpful if you want students to really think for themselves, develop their own foundations for and about teaching, and become the innovative educators of the future. Finally, here is a book that engages students to the degree that thinking and discussion become the class and the learning. This book is powerful, unafraid, varied, on-target, inventive, cutting edge. You won't be disappointed.

education class

I had to read this book for my education class. It's about different theories from teachers from different backgrounds on things they've done in their classrooms. I thought the book was okay.

Spectacularly Good

This book should be required reading for every teacher education student and anyone else seriously interested in our nation's children and their schools. The pieces are thoughtful, engaging, and provocative and they ask the "big" questions about WHY we school children and HOW we should do so. This wonderful little book is really one of the few 'must reads' in education I have seen in the last 5 or 6 years.
