One of the handful of the very best nature books ever written!

Peggy Wayburn was one of the very finest nature and natural history writers, and The Edge of Life is her very best book, in my opinion. The writing in this volume is a model for how to write about the natural world, and her multi-faceted approach to the life of estuaries (using Bolinas Lagoon in Northern California as her primary model) is awesome. Each page is a delight to read, with Wayburn's incredible ways of expressing things, seeing metaphors and all the various implications of life in our estuarine environments..... A classic book, and one still available and so valuable. I can't recommend it enough....
