4.5 stars - Another action packed magical romance from O'shea

Edge of Dawn, third in O'Shea's Light Warriors series, has a nice balance of story, action, and romance all topped off with a healthy dose of magic. Unknown to Shona, magical Light Warrior troubleshooter Logan has been assigned to protect the lovely but shy Shona from dark mages. After Logan rescues her from an attack, Shona decides to risk stepping out of her comfort zone to pursue her instant attraction to her kind and gorgeous savior. Logan thinks that dating is a good way to stay close enough to Shona to protect her, but Logan doesn't bargain on Shona's hidden passionate nature or his growing need to get close to the entrancing woman which is nothing about protection and all about the desire that sizzles between them. But when Logan discovers the reason why his enemies are after Shona, he may be forced to either betray Shona or break his vow to his magical race - either choice carries a cost that Logan just can't bear. There was a lot that I liked about Edge of Dawn. Both of the leads were extremely likable, and bookish me was rooting for the shy contained Shona who overcomes the extreme caution with which she's live her life, and the truly nice guy Logan who is unable to keep business separate from pleasure. I liked Logan's careful pursuit of Shona, even though the chemistry between them is apparent from the start. And I liked that both of the pair are unable to maintain the control that has been so much a part of their lives when they are around each other. It leads to some nice steamy moments - as long as one doesn't stop to think of the reality of the location of their first tryst. Add in conflicts which force the hero to choose between love and duty, some dragon magic and a villainess who is not all bad and I thoroughly enjoyed the book and can't wait for more. Couldn't find anything on O'Shea's website yet about the next book in the series but I am hoping for Logan's twin Kel and Shona's conflicted friend.

love really is enough when facing dangerous demons

Her world is her art and as a brilliant glass artist, she is making a name for herself. Until recently that is. Suddenly she is blocked and has lost her creativity. She should be heartbroken but oddly enough, feels nothing at the loss of this aspect of her identity. Then, one night she is nearly mugged and her life changes even more. Logan Andrews is the troubleshooter assigned responsibility by the Gineal council to protect Shona. He is to do whatever necessary to keep her safe, with one very important rule - do not tell her what they are and keep secret the world of magic. However, soon shocking revelations come to light that make Logan feel torn between duty to his council and his developing feelings for the amazing woman that is Shona. Time is running out and before long, none of that may matter if he can't get to the bottom of a strange affliction he suffers in time to protect Shona from the real danger stalking her. It is on the Edge of Dawn that Logan and Shona must choose... Shona has never had her inner strength tested. She actually is a bit naïve as a result and we worry about her suddenly being drawn into the middle of this battle thrust upon her. I don't want to say just who the enemy of the Gineal is, as it surprised me and I don't want to ruin that experience for anyone else. However, once she is thrown into war, she comes out swinging and we get to find out just how formidable of a woman she can be. I loved watching her grow and develop and I am once again amazed at Patti O'Shea's brilliance in the art of character development. Logan too, has his own trials to face, but we know from the beginning he has what it takes. The fun in experiencing Logan's growth is seeing his struggles to decide between what he knows and what he feels he must do. Shona and Logan prove to us that love really is enough when facing dangerous demons. Their bond is a strong one and I was sucked right into their story, on the edge of my seat waiting to see how they would overcome the barriers in their way. These two are perfect complements and we know they will come through for one another somehow, some way, in spite of their differences. Magic is a key element in the Light Warriors series and we are in the middle of it once again. Yet there is plenty of room for surprises I discovered, when I saw the glimpses of just how expansive the Gineal world can be. Patti expands her universe with the addition of new revelations and new kinds of magic. What a treat it is to experience every bit of this magical world, dark and light. I love Patti O'Shea's Light Warriors series! I thought book one, In the Midnight Hour, couldn't be beat with its huge surprises and the incredible world that is the Gineal universe. intriguing romantic urban fantasy

In Seattle while glass artist Shona Blackwood accepts apathetically her sudden loss of creativity sort of like a writer's block, the Ceannard assigns agent Logan Andrews to protect her. His contact Nessia informs him that Shona is a dormant unaware of her heritage or even the Gineal race; he is warned to tell her nothing. For some unknown reason the Tarriel crossed over from the dark side targeting Shona. Magical troubleshooter Logan thwarts an assault on Shona, who thinks her hero saved her from a simple mugging. She also quickly realizes her savior has awakened her from her lethargy in a way she has never sensed before. He also feels awake as he finds his charge captivating and attractive. His desire grows as he keeps her safe until Logan realizes he owes his love the truth though that could derail his mission and would defy the rules of engagement. This is an intriguing romantic urban fantasy starring a likable fully developed pair who are falling in love, but his assignment interferes with their relationship although he understands paramount is her safety. The story line starts off with some difficulty in following what is going on especially with the Yukon incident. However, once the world of Patti O'Shea is set and the key players appear on stage, fans will be enthralled with the author's fast-paced thriller as Shona and Logan prove magic and love mix perfectly together when the ingredients are soulmates and the time of night is right. Don't Let the Cover Fool You...

Yes, the cover is lame. But I've got a great suggestion-- open the book and enter a fascinating world where our everyday lives are infused with hidden magic. I'm not much of a paranormal reader, but I do love good, compelling romance, and that's what I got here. Logan and Shona are an incredibly realistic couple. On the surface they have little in common-- she's a glass artist, he's been to a museum once or twice; he loves to restore vintage cars, she knows how to put the key in the ignition-- but it's clear that they respect their differences and really admire one another. The author does a fantastic job of conveying Shona's struggle with artist's block-- she's identified herself as an artist for so long that this sudden block and inability to create... well, it *hurts*, and the reader feels that. I also enjoyed how normal this magic world seems-- yes, there are strong paranormal elements, but those are tempered by scenes with two girlfriends sitting around eating Frosties from Wendy's. It's so normal I find myself wondering if my next door neighbors are secretly battling magical beings while I'm at work. This is a great, easy read that will please paranormal readers and straight-up romance readers as well. O'Shea continues to demonstrate a deft touch with characterization that lingers long after the fight scenes are over.
