The bullet that killed his daughter was meant for Boston cop Thomas Craven. That's what police brass and Craven think, but that's not what the investigation finds. With clue after clue and witness after witness, the search leads him into a shadowy realm where money and political intrigue intersect. If Craven wasn't a target before, he -- and anyone linked to his inquiry -- now is. Mel Gibson stars in his first screen lead in eight years, making Craven's grief palpable and his quest for payback stone-cold and relentless. Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) directs from a screenplay written by Andrew Bovell and The Departed's William Monahan. Gibson is back, taking us to the edge and into the sinister darkness.
Standard revenge movie with its unique twisty ending.

If you like this formula revenge-type movie where the survivor has to outwit the good guys and bad guys to extract revenge… oops, justice.
In this one, it appears that Detective Matt Craven (Mel Gibson) is the target, or is he, as his daughter Emma Craven (Bojana Novakovic) is dispatched just as she was going to give the secret away. Now he must find out why she was dispatched, and whether it was a boyfriend or a cabal.
There is quite a lot of gratuitous gore; we get car chases, gunfire, exotic poison, and downright punching in the face.
We have an added character that is not in most of these revenge movies. Will he stir the pot? Who is this man, Darius Jedburgh (Ray Winstone)?
