Brittany Bentley's Edgar Allan Poe Book Review

Edgar Allan Poe by Jennifer Peltak is a revealing look at the author, Edgar Allan Poe. Poe was born in Boston in the 1800's. He moved to Baltimore when he was four with his foster parents. He created his first book called Tamerlane and Other Poems in about 1828. This book sold poorly. He entered West Point but got kicked out because of his drinking habits. He then married his cousin, Virginia Clemm, in 1836. Poe constantly fought with his foster father who, when he died, left nothing in his will for Edgar. When Virginia died in 1847, Edgar began to drink recklessly and became very depressed. Ironically, he later died in front of a tavern. This book does not sugar-coat Poe's life. It "tells it like it is." I recommend this book to anyone who, like me, needs to read a book for a book report.
