Edenton East: Echos of the past end

Edenton East is my journey through land, loss, spirit, and the stubborn resistance to growth and modernization that continues to define much of Africa. At the heart of this collection runs the refrain "Biafra on my mind." I reflect that if Biafra, a short-lived breakaway nation in Nigeria had been allowed to stay, it might have escaped the retrogressive crawl that still grips many African nations weighed down by what I coin neocolonial retrogressivism: a condition of managed backwardness under recycled leadership, where progress is deliberately stalled and nations remain trapped in cycles of ruins.
