Eden Cove is a small mountain community in Southern Appalachia circa late 1860's. Due to its geographic isolation, the inhabitants have fostered a self-reliant farming lifestyle with very limited interaction with villages and towns outside of the cove. There is one Church in the Cove called Eden Cove Church. The Pastors for this Church are provided by the Baptist Seminary located a two day horse ride away. Ollie Shanks has been the Pastor of the Church for the past year, which is the typical period the seminary allots for pastoral leadership. Ollie is eager to be relieved from Eden Cove as he feels he is better suited to a more prominent and better paying job with more potential for advancement. Enter Peter James who is assigned by the Seminary to relieve Ollie Shanks. Peter is a man of God who possesses extreme faith as described by Jesus in John 14:12. (whoever believes in me will do the works I do and even greater things than this because I am going to the Father) and Matthew 17:20 (have faith as a grain of mustard seed and nothing will be impossible to you). Due to this faith, God reveals His will to Peter, along with the ability to see into others hearts. God directs Peter to where he is to go and how he is to minister to the small mountain community of Eden Cove. Peter is able to channel the Word of God to others and speak directly to their hearts, moving them to see their need for a closer relationship with God. Through Peter, God heals, God restores, and God renews the faith of the people of Eden Cove.
