Eddie Cochran: The Untold Story

Ray Edward "Eddie" Cochran, born on October 3rd, 1938, Albert Lea, Minnesota, U.S., was a Singer-songwriter and musician. Cochran's rockabilly songs, including "Twenty Flight Rock", "Summertime Blues", "C'mon Everybody" and "Somethin' Else", captured teenage frustration and desire during the mid-1950s to early 1960s. Eddie experimented with multitrack recording, distortion techniques, and overdubbing from his earliest singles, having played the guitar, piano, bass, and drums. His image as a sharply dressed, good-looking young man with a rebellious attitude, epitomized the 1950s rocker, becoming of iconic status following his tragic early death. Cochran was involved with music from when very young, playing in his school band, having taught himself to play blues guitar. Eddie formed a duet with the guitarist and songwriter, Hank Cochran, the pair recording as the Cochran Brothers, although they weren't related. Eddie then began a songwriting career with Jerry Capehart, his future manager, after splitting from Hank the following year. His breakthrough came when he performed the song "Twenty Flight Rock" in the musical comedy movie, The Girl Can't Help It, starring Jayne Mansfield, having signed a recording contract with Liberty Records soon afterwards. Cochran died aged just 21, the day after a road accident on Rowden Hill, on Saturday, April 16th, while travelling in a taxi in Chippenham, Wiltshire, during his British tour of 1960, having just performed at Bristol's Hippodrome theatre. Eddie's best-known songs were released during his lifetime, with more being issued posthumously, before he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during 1987. Cochran's songs have been recorded by a wide variety of artists.
