I won't spend time expounding on this book, seeing as how the previous posters have pretty much covered it. All I have to say is the author masterfully crafted a piece of work that induces intelligent thought, and jaw-dropping awe. I haven't been able to find other works by this author, and believe me, I've looked. If this is his first novel, all I can say is where have you been all of my life, and when does your next one come out?
Fascinating and provocative. A great book!

This is an energetically enthralling book. It deserves the highest accolades for a number of accomplishments: The story development and plot are absolutely absorbing. The writing is superb - short, well tuned, expressive, and evocative sentences, e.g., "At least a hundred thousand dollars worth of suits sat around the table." The characters were fully captivating, particularly the repulsive and lubricious John-Bob Thorton. The story is obstensively about the murder of the first black president of a major oil company and the fascinating legal machinations that follow. However, the book is much more complex and sophisticated. It is an examination of the inner, often hidden, and personal worldviews that drive people, and the origins and consequences of their values and prejudices. It describes how a "Mr. Hyde" evolves not through chemistry but through ... Oh well, I better leave that to the book. The author uses the story as a pallet to carry a discussion of how achievers achieve, how losers lose, how attitudes are established and changed, and how old means of human camouflage metamorphise into new ones. This is a great read, and I fully expect to enjoy saying that I discovered it before it hit the best seller list or became a prizewinner. Fortunately the book is readable in a single sitting, since it's so hard to put down.
Emotions Abound

Hatred. Rage. Fear. Judgment. Admiration. Love. Strength. Understanding. Compassion. Bewilderment. Wonder. Awe. Emotions you will undoubtedly feel when you read Thomas' Eclipse of the Son. The message is incredible, one we should all be open to hear, pay attention to, live by. It's thought provoking, it's real. It's been weeks since I've read the book, have read 2 others since then, Eclipse of the Son stays with me. When an author can move me that deeply ... excellent.
When the Book is This Great I don't Mind a Spam

This was the best book I have read in many years. With thought provoking dialogue throughout the book, and an ending that really made me think, this book is highly recommended. If you are looking for a great book to get immersed in, this is the book. I hope everybody who reads this review will go out and buy it. I did get a spam about the book - and I bought it. I can't find anything about the author who obviously is not doing a lot of self promotion. If SE Thomas has any other books out, I would love to buy them. This would make a fantastic movie!
Fast-paced, thought provoking with a drop-dead ending

The author raises some topical issues via a fast-paced thrill ride. The characters were well developed, from Bo Weevil Sims, a big-headed jury consultant, to M.D. Hitler, an out of control white supremacist, and Phil Jameison, an African-American Law professor. Each had his/her own well-developed personality and background. Each also had their flaws. There are no unblemished heros in this book. I read this book quickly but afterward thought about it for days, especially that ending--WOW.
