As I adapted these stories from screenplay format to short stories, a common thread emerged. They are all seen through the eyes of children, primarily school kids, as they navigate the complexities of society. Each story tackles different central themes, such as communal violence, caste and class oppression, corruption, environmental destruction, family and domestic violence, sexual abuse, and self-loathing. These themes reflect the world these kids inhabit. They explore, understand, and confront these issues in their innocence. While these stories are fictional, they are rooted in my observations, experiences, and anecdotes, addressing the very real social problems in our society.
"Echoes of Caterpillar" invites you to explore these themes through the eyes of young characters as they navigate the complexities of the world around them. It is my hope that this collection will entertain, enlighten, and encourage thoughtful discussions on the challenges we face in contemporary India.
