ECHOES FROM RACHEL

This sequel to Whispers from African Hollow is an updated accounting of Reynolds family history. It is written in a triumverate context of American history, Faith, and Pan African history. Black genealogy is Black history, contextually connecting what was going on in and around the family saga and how laws, social norms, wars and progress impacted our ancestors; and, how they impacted progress. Echoes From Rachel is a testament to family faith, seemlessly flowing from one generation to another, knowing God and living in spiritual harmony with the Supreme Power as prescribed by scriptures. And finally, the Pan African context shows linkage with histories of African and Caribbean countries. Particularly the latter where laws and the struggle for liberation influenced laws in Colonial American to confine and control both Black slaves and Black free men and women. They also influenced the determination for Black liberation as well. Central to the family story is Smith Reynolds, the second patriarch who fought in the Civil War with the 111th Regiment of the United States Colored Troops, and in the indian Wars with the Company E 24th Regiment of the United States Army - The Buffalo Soldiers. After Smith Reynbolds the focus shifts to his oldest son Lilburn Reynolds Sr. the first in the family born in freedom; the Rev. Mack Reynolds, who was an influential clergyman in the Pulaski area, and was Pastor of First Baptist Church of Riversburg that he founded and built on his own land; and Fed Reynolds, whose direct descendants don't just talk the talk, they walk the walk as they continue to lead the family and their communities to progress and prosperity. A lot has been learned since the 2013 when Whispers From African Hollow was written on the history and genealogy of the Lilburn Reynolds Family of Pulaski, Tennessee. Fast-forward to 2022 there are greater depths of internet information, digital upload of various types of vital records, military records, and gravesite data; as well as, linking-up with other family resource data; and piecing together subsequent oral history. The Giles County Historical Society actively researched and provided information, as well.
