The artwork titled EBENSEE: SACRED ENERGY, was inspired by an irregular two-inch chip from a cave in Ebensee which I had acquired--a tangible piece of the cave's dark history. This fragment became the impetus for this sculpture. These gigantic caves were hacked out by forced labor--Jewish victims, starving and freezing. Because I felt the tragedy so deeply when I visited Ebensee in the summer of 2010, I strongly needed to immortalize what these prisoners had to endure in the best way I could: living--barely, and dying--horrifically because of unimaginable acts of depravity. Many months of thought went into this art piece along with a lengthy journey of seeking out just the right materials, from the coast of Florida to a barn in Minnesota.
