Eating Lizzy

"Come to de island, Mohn!"Jayson Leyman, an American scientist based at Michigan State University, is enchanted by an advertisement advertising Barbados as a glamorous tourist destination. The call of the machete-swinging, dreadlocked Rastafarian chopping coconuts for smiling tourists enjoying sea, sand and sun, is too seductive to resist. So, he drags his beautiful wife and son there despite their resistance, promising them a vacation in paradise. They rent an apartment from a single mother, Deborah Andrews, taking her five-year-old daughter, Lizzy, along with them one day, to sightsee, with Deborah's approval. They go to North Point, a tourist facility which they discover is closed for renovations but despite this notice they enter the Animal Flower Cave and wander off into a channel whose floor collapses. Trapped for twelve days without the outside world knowing what has become of them, and without food and water, they eventually kill Lizzy and feed on her body in order to stay alive.A tropical storm weakens the outside wall of the cave and they manage to dig themselves out. Free, they head for the airport not knowing their faces have been plastered by the police and the media all over the island, everyone believing they kidnapped the child. The police are after them and so is the child's father. They cleverly avoid detection at the airport and are seated on an AA plane about to take off when the plane shuts down due to the genius of the local police. They are arrested and taken into custody and a brutal murder trial follows in which the court must decide whether necessity can ever be a defence to murder. But before the verdict is reached, Richard Christianson, the murdered child's father, takes matters into his own hands."Come to de island, Mohn!" turns out to be a curse Jayson Leyman wished had never reached his ears.A rousing, haunting tale with fervent action, uninhibited emotions and sexual tensions, which builds to an adrenaline-pumping crescendo of suspense once the Leymans realize they have no choice but to kill the child.
