Lord Devlin Dissects The Trial Over Which He Presided
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 21 years ago
Lord Devlin's dissection of John Bodkin Adams' first trial harkens back to the golden age of true-crime-writing. Devlin shows himself at least as good as Roughead and Tennyson Jesse on stylistics, and their superior in nearly every other way. Focusing on Adams' trial, rather than his alleged crimes, *Easing The Passing* is erudite, funny, and instructive (particularly for non-UK audiences who don't usually understand the arcana of the English criminal justice system). It's also a splendid dissection of the performance of all the critical actors in the trial, and a brilliant review of just how little a trial has to do with either justice, or the truth. A top-10 on any true-crime list, for certain.
