Earthling [Large Print]

By Alex Vega

In the aftermath of a failed Martian invasion of Earth, biologist Arthur Carlisle discovers a living baby Martian inside a crashed tripod. Defying his colleagues, he secretly raises the infant, whom he names Ezekiel, studying the creature while forming a deep, paternal bond. Over decades, Ezekiel grows into a highly intelligent, curious being who grapples with his duel identity as an alien and a member of the Carlisle family. The memoir follows their hidden life together, revealing the ethical dilemmas, dangers, and quiet affection that define their relationship.

Years later, after Arthur's death, his granddaughter Elise inherits the family home and the monumental secret her grandfather devoted his life to protect. As she settles into her new life and job, tensions rise with skeptical coworkers and the ever-present risk of exposure. Ezekiel, now restless and lonely, struggles with his place in a world that would view him as a monster. When their secret is uncovered, chaos erupts, and the pair must fight to survive while confronting what it will mean to leave behind the only home they've ever known.

Blending alternate history sci-fi with intimate character drama, this novel reimagines the aftermath of H.G. Wells's The War of the Worlds through a lens of compassion, scientific curiosity, and quiet rebellion. It explores humanity's capacity for empathy towards the enemy while delivering tense action, the blurred lines between "us" and "them", and an emotionally resonant conclusion about love across impossible divides.
