We used this book in my college class for experiential learning and it was very helpful. The book is easy to read and has a lot of helpful hints. Many of the tables and templates can be copied out of the book and used in your own portfolio.

Earn College Credit for What You Know is an excellent resource for students interested in receiving credit from life experiences. The book offers detailed information and instructions on how to navigate the prior learning assessment process. I read the book and to date I have been awarded 42 credits for prior work experience. I was able to earn credit through a combination of CLEP testing, course challenges, and portfolios which resulted in a significant cost avoidance for tuition as the prior learning assessment methods explained in the book are much cheaper than campus based learning. You will need to do a fair amount of writing but the steps are well outlined in the book. The nice thing about writing portfolios is that you can do so at your own pace while taking other classes. Check it out.
